Vitamin E
Abstract
Vitamin E is a plant derived compound composed from
eight fat tocochromanols. Vitamin E is the major lipid-soluble component and
its absorption relay on the presence of PUFAs. It has very essential biological
roles such as protecting cell membrane, prevention oxidative stress and
regulate protein kinase C. It is an antioxidant defense system and is
exclusively obtained from the diet. It has numerous important roles within the
body because of its antioxidant activity. Oxidation has been linked to numerous
possible conditions and diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer, coronary heart
disease and cataracts; vitamin E has been shown to be effective against these.
It is least toxic of all fat soluble vitamins and the most benefit one.
Key words: vitamin E, alpha tocopherol, antioxidant,
